1. Construction Material (Fixing Base)

The type and quality of the construction material significantly influence the selection of the fixing system.

1.1 Concrete

Concrete is classified into three categories based on density: lightweight concrete, normal concrete, and heavy concrete. Lightweight concrete differs from normal concrete due to added lightweight aggregates such as pumice, Blahton, Styropor, etc. Cement serves as the binding agent in both cases. Lightweight aggregates (which often have lower compressive strength compared to gravel concrete) are frequently less favorable for anchor fixing. The designation of the construction material refers to its compressive strength.

For example, C25 indicates gravel or normal concrete with a compressive strength of 25 N/mm². This is the most commonly used concrete strength. The load-bearing capacity of a heavy-duty anchor (usually a steel anchor) depends, among other factors, on the compressive strength of the concrete.

1.2 Masonry Materials

Masonry is a base material consisting of various masonry elements and hardened binding material. Often, the strength of bricks is significantly higher than that of the mortar; therefore, fixing points should avoid joints whenever possible. Four subgroups can be distinguished:

1.2.1 Solid Masonry Units

Excellent fixing performance can be achieved in these materials. They are practically void-free and have high compressive strength. Bricks with up to 15% void content are still considered solid.

1.2.2 Hollow Masonry Units
These are made from materials similar in strength to solid masonry units but contain more than 15% voids..

If high loads must be supported, special anchors should be used, such as those that bridge cavities or fill them through injection.

1.2.3 Porous Masonry Units

These bricks usually have low compressive strength and a porous structure. For optimal fixing, special anchors are required, such as material-bonding anchors with large surface contact (e.g., gas concrete anchors – GB).

1.2.4 Hollow Porous Masonry Materials

These are mainly hollow, porous, and low-strength bricks. Fixing methods must be selected very carefully. Suitable solutions include long expansion zone anchors (S-H-R SS) or form-locking injected mesh anchors.
